All right, here's my delema. I can't afford a true dual conversion, whether from Fullsac, B&E Perfomance or V&H, so I am thinking about modifying my stock exhaust. Has anyone tried cutting the cross members off, grinding the remenence down flush to the header and welding in some waffles in the old cross over hole on the headers? One would think that it would equate to the performance promised by the abovced mentioned comapanies since the stoc exhaust diameter is kept. Please give me some input before I start hacking away and welding.
Thanks
Might want to consider seeing you also live in Calif... New EPA Laws and Calif new emission laws coming soon???
I would think twice before you cut and patch an EPA approves system...
You might want to just get some slip-ons and see what way the new emission craps heads???

Yep. I moved hereabout 20 years ago andmiss the good rides that region offers but suredon't miss the "Kalifornistan" laws at all - not one little bit. Oh well...
Maybe try a freeze plug tack-welded into the balance pipeNascarr97 - somewhat temporary? I've heard the stock HD LH muffler baffle is different from the RH though so unless you invest in new muffs, it might not work anyway.
I cut the cross over pipe off then welded a patch over it, went to a muffler shop and purchased a straight pipe for the right side, then flipped my heat shields back wards so it covered the pipe. It worked great, made a great difference in sound and couldn't tell the difference by my seat of the pants dyno. But I did add a SE/AC and a tmax at the time which probably made up the difference them some. I love the sound of true duels, I purchased the V& H true duels just a few weeks ago. I did it to see if I'd like the sound, if I didn't I had plannedto get a new set of mufflers any way so I'd just get the whole set, but it worked out great. New true duels and new mufflers too. Sounds great to me and since I'm not a speed freak I'm happy. Before I get blasted I know 2 into 1 is best for performance.
I had given some thought to Tig welding a plug into the crossover pipe on my 08 RK. I had already replaced the stock mufflers with some from V&H. Instead, I bought a set of duel pipes. After installing them, I don;t know if I wouldn;t have liked the stock pipes plugged better. Yeah, everyone can tell it has true duels, but the bike looks like its missing something without the crossover. Leaves a large empty area with the crossover gone.
