I just replaced the link to the HD with heim joints now it looks like basically the link just centers the foot controls
and attatches to the trans link I layed out my old one and made them close as I could seems stiffer to shift but otherwise fine
just want to make sure there isn't something wrong I thought it was stiffer because of the better joints on the ends??
I put a Kuryakyn 9085 shift linkage on my 08 RKC. Much stiffer than stock and far less likely to break. It was slightly longer than stock so it lowered my toe shifter to where i really wanted it, but raised the heel shifter so i had to adjust that back down. Otherwise I don't notice any change in the shifting due to the heim joints.
I just ordered theround linkage (HD #33814-98A) from Chicago HD. Did you use LocTite on the bolts? Thelinkageshouldn't be stiff if theheim joints are adjusted the same lengthasthe OE part and the bolts aren't overtightened.
Replaced mine 7K miles agoand was about 1 1/2" longer than stock. Tightned ends till they bottomed out squaredheim endsto each other, lowered shifter arm a few notches, and all fine since. After a few hundred miles stiffness was gone.

When you put in the heim joints , just make sure when you tighten them up , you don't get them bound up.
When it's right , you should be able to rotate it back and forth with your fingertips , and both move the same amount.
