Default Stroker Motor Help

I’m going to post this question here to see what kind of feed back or answers I can get. I have a fuel injected 98 EVO I want to upgrade and without boring my cases. That leaves building a striker motor. I want to do this as economical as I can (yeah, I know, keep dreaming) Jims and S&S sell kits that work. Does anyone on this forum have experience with building a stroker motor? The kit I am looking at from Jims punches me from the stock 80” to an 89” with 9.5:1 compression without boring. I want this to be as a reliable an engine as it can get so I’m not going for pure performance. Just more power to have fun with the big heavy bike and let me make long runs reliably. I’ll keep this short as I’m sure there are more questions to be worked out. Any replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to all who answer. Mike

Hi 98,

I think your chioce for a 9.5:1 cr is a good one and will avoid many of the high compression problems that come with builds with over 10.5:1 cr. You may want to check out http://www.truettandosborn.com/
I sent my '97 EVO case to them and they put in the stroker wheels, rods and pistons.
All balanced, Get job, very strong.
My 80 ci EVO came hame as an 89 ci stroker.
Something to concider is the SE 103 ci Stroker is only 8.9:1 cr. Add air in and air out(pipies) and 100/100 is very do able.

Another place to look at is Zippers.

The 2 companies you mentioned, Jims and S&S are both great V Twin Motor builders as well.

Far as cost goes, nothing is cheap when it's V Twin.
By the time you add in the "while you're at it parts" and all the incidentals, expect to spend at the very least $4,500.00 for parts and labor at a reputable shop and that's at the low price range for a done right start to finish build.
But, as you must know; The sky is the limit.

It's better to save up and get what you want, than to get it done and be dissatisified with what you got! I can say that because I learned that lesson myself firsthand and sadly, more than once.
Hope this helped some
good luck
chappy

Not afraid of boring cases, just my research phase. Trying to keep it as economical as I can without adding to much green stuff $$$$. I have EFI which adds another twist to the whole things (and money), if I had a carb motor I don't think I'd give it a second thought. You're right, if the motor is out it only makes sense to go all the way and build big, I'm with you on that. The EFI and electrical side of things is what I'm not familiar with, so I stay away from that end (more research). I don’t care about bragging rights, just want a more fun bagger/sleeper with almost factory like reliability while keeping it on a tight budget. Thanks for the reply.
