so i'm dumping my V &H slip-ons for some new pipes, need something with a little more sound to them. i think i'm going with the thunderheader, (unless someone changes mind ...again...before i order). i am wondering if anyone has the black thunderheader and if they are happy with it. i have heard of some people say the thunderheader has marginally good chrome, just wondering if the black has any issues. anybody have any pics? thanks in advance
I've got the D & D FatCat in black. If you want loud, that's the pipe. I'm ordering the quiet baffle soon. The black is holding up well, and the fit and finish is superb.
Larry, what do you consider loud? i don't mean to sound like a jerk when i say that, so don't take it the wrong way but, my softail had samson street sweepers on it. i persoanlly loved that sound but i know many people would think it's way to loud for them. i personally think that the sound of the v and h are ok, and uless i really twist it up, it's average at best. had a superglide with a thunderheader and some motor work done and it sounded great, i would just like a little more sound, i think my oval slip ons ocassionally sound like a wet fart.
I have had the thunderheader, the bassani 2-1, and the fat cat all in black. The fat cat is by far the best pipe in performance and durability. The coatings on the thunderheader and bassani only lasted one year. Started to look horrible after a couple months. Had them both Jet Hot coated. I recommend the fat cat in black.
Hope this helps ya out!
If you want loud go with the THs. You didn't say what bike, but if you go with the Chrome, you can cover them up with Scremin Eagle heat shields like I did.
I've got black Thunderheaders 2into1 that were originally chrome that
I paint with Hi Temp black paint (flat). - long story -
I don't think they are too loud but loud enough for me.
If I ever get new ones I would get the black ceramic coating
that they offer. My paint lasts about a year before scratches
and road stuff starts appearing and I repaint them.
The factory paint might last longer......
As loud as the sweepers, but a different sound. Loud enough to cause ear pain when getting on it hard if not wearing earplugs. Friends now make me ride in the back loud. IOW, pretty damn loud. It's a totally different sound though. If you go to D & D's page they havevideos. http://www.danddexhaust.com/catalog/2005/07/43632b.htm
