Hello, I am new to HDF. I ride a 2006 Eligtra Glide Standard, (FLHTI). and I have logged 16K on her since I purchased her new in Jan 06.Recently, I have discovered a fairing squeak comming from the left side. Both fairing brackets have been replaced, becaused they broke. But the noise continues! Hasanyone had the same problem/fixed????

Maybe this will help.

This may seem strange, but a while agoI had a squeak that I could swear was coming from my Roadglide fairing.
I checked the fairing brackets, the belt, every nut and bolt for tightness.
Couldn't find the problem. I checked the entire exhaust, even went as far as to revove all the heat shields looking for this annoying squeak.
Still couldn't find it.
Finally I realized that I had started using a mid grade gas of 89 octane.
I guess I'm a cheap bastard and didn't want tospend the extra money onhigh test.
This squeak was driving me crazy. It was only there when I accelerated hard and the bike was warm.
Put some 93 octane in it and the squeak went away completely.
It never knocked or pinged, just squeaked.
Squeak never came back.

Second Message,

As you can read, I sure as hell, can't type. Let me try this again..., today, I took a 200 mile road trip. As you suggested, I held onto the windshield, but no luck. The noise continues. I guess I will do further "diag" when I get more time. I just turned up my stereo and ignored the noise.

Your right, it does sound a bit of crazy, but what have I got to loose, except that damm squeak? And I too, checked every nut and bolt and found zip, nada, zero! Tomorrow, I'll fill up with 89. I will let you know.

mine does it. fairing brackets ok. squeaks while pulling on windshield. i'm starting to wonder if it's the clutch cable squeaking at the grommet in the fairing.

IZZI,

I too thought it was the clutch cable rubbing on the rubber grommit. I removed the outter fairing, ensured the cable was not touching anything, and still the noise continues. I think when the noise gets worse, I do more searching.

Gordon.

PS, nice bike you have there....

Hey Elcid

Just to be clear, the bike squeaked with mid grade 89.
It doesn't squeak with high test 93.
It also has alot less vibration, especially when I take off from a stop.
