I've got 3500 miles with no idle issues orthrottle problems. I only use the ignition to shut down.

I've got 1100 miles so far... I've owned my 08' EGlide for 2 weeks now with no throttle problems so far... Knocking on wood... Now lets talk about a squealing rear brake???

11,000 miles on my 08 without a problem with the throttle.

I've said this in other posts about the subject. When you start your bike, no matterif the bike is warm or not, the ecm is going to change your idle speed based on the sensor settings. All fuel injected vehicles do it. This acts as a choke would on a carb. Try to ignore your idle speed on start up. Let it warm up and ride it for a while. If it's continuously high, you might have a problem but I bet it will go to normal after you have ridden fora while.

I'm not saying that people aren't having problems, I just think people immediately think something is wrong when they start their bike and the idle jumps up. But it's supposed too. I had an 05 that after riding 40 miles and shutting it off to check the mail, I'd restart it and it would idle high. Ride it a little and it would go back to normal. Just the ecm seeing the heat had soaked in and it would bump up the idle to get more oil flow.

I have no idea what any of this is about I have an 08 TBW and seriously don't have a clue what why anyone would:

-play with the throttle while shutting it down
-why that would have any bearing on idle upon start up IF you were blipping the throttle at shutdown
-what kind of problems Moco is supposed to own up to

Not saying there aren't problems..guess I'm just surprised if there are, I'm not part of the class

I've had this happen a few times. It's normal for the idle to be higher upon first starting the bike until it becomes warm. All EFI bikes do this.

But I've ridden 25 miles or so and stop at a light and the bike is still idling at 1600 rpms or so. My fix? I just turn it off with the key switch, then re-start. Idles back down to normal. Didn't have to do that turn off-and-on four times thing. Just once did it by shutting off with the key switch.

It doesn't happen often. Once every couple of weeks. No big deal to me.

I think the real problem is that Harley Davidson hasen't done a good job of describing how the TBW resets the idle and why it does it. The dealer has no clue and just make things worse with misinformation. I had the problem when I first got my bike, and initially and it did seem like the throttle was advancing by itself. The dealer was sending a trailer to pick it up because I didn't want to ride it. Then the service manager called me and we did the reset procedure. I still use the kill switch
but let the idle return to normal with my hand off the throttle when I shut down. No problems since then.

Curious about those of you that have this problem. How many miles are on the bike when you experience this? I had this happen 2 times, but it was before I had 500 miles on the bike (now have over 2k and it hasn't happened since). My though is that after so many miles or cycles of turning the engine on/off (actually running) the ecm has some history to it and it acts appropriately.

My theory is complete BS if it is happening to anybody with high mileage.

Personally, I'm not going to question the engine shutdown sequence with folks that ride HD because 99% of use have been riding for some time and it ain't our first rodeo.

This seems to be a real issue with some bikes and I'm concerned that there is no official TSB issued by MoCo to address this with a fix. Shutting the bike down with the kill switch at > 900 rpm should not reset the idle speed; this is an error.

I have not experienced the problem yet but it don't mean that I won't.

Do NOT turn off the engine using the kill switch - I was doing that and then had trouble starting. I started using the ignition switch instead, no more problems. Ya, I know the owner's manual says to shut off with the kill switch; but there must be some kind ofglitch with using the kill switch on the '08s. I have not had any problems with fast idle with TBW on my '08 FLHTC. On one occasion the engine was idling high, but on that occasion the engine was cold and I didn't let it warm up more than 30secs.Iam now running a SERT map and have control over thecold start RPM. My only complaint is the slop in the TBW gear teeth - that's whats causing the excessive play in the throttle. I installed heated grips - still the same slop.
