Default Rush 2.0 Question

A friend of mine bought a new Ultra and wants to put slip-ons on his bike, another friend has a pair of Screaming Eagles slip-ons and was told by the service dept. that he needed to do the stage 1, SERT, and then have it dyno'd or the slip-ons would ruin his motor, I told him that that was a bunch of bull. Another tech at a different shop told him the same thing I did, just put them on, if anything it might make your bike a litte leaner but should not hurt it. Will update after slip-ons are installed

Have him pull his plugs and look them over, now before he does anything. Put the new slip on's on the bike and ride it for 10-20 miles. Come back home and check the plugs again. If they look the same, he is not going to ruin his bike. It may run a little leaner/warmer than before, but if the plugs look the same then there is not that much difference. Also, have himsee if he get's any popping from his exhaust at any time,if so then he haseither a lean or rich condition. Nothing htat a fuel management system can't work out.

If he pulls the plugs and they are white or really "ashy" then he needs to buy a fuel pack set up and richen up the fuel.

There are thousands of bikes on the road with after market slip ons and never have been dyno'd or changed any fuel ratio's. Again, watch your plugs as they tell the story. I bought my 08 Deuce from my dealer with new Vance and Hines pipes and big sucker breather. They mapped it up a little richer fuel mix. No dyno or fuel pack. Plugs look perfect and the bike runs perfect!

That is the key, richen it up. New bikes run lean, real lean. Adding the slip ons should be ok, but probably will lean it out justa tad more. I don't want to p$ss no one off, but we all buy a new bike and many of us what that "Harley" sound right away, so we slap a $300 muffler set on our $20K+ motorcycle so we can sound good. It may or may not change the way the bike performs, but chances are it could have a small, maybe unnoticeable effect. My question is, if you will invest $20K+ in the bike, why not pace yourself, wait just a little longer, collect the parts, AC, exhaust and fuel management and make that big investment do what it should? The results are amazing both in power and helping the engine breathe and run better. All that for another what, maybe $300 if you shop wisely? Oh yeah, another great sounding option no matter what you do, NightRider IED or XIED. On that stock motor with just exhaust I would seriously consider the IED. Search here for info or go to www.nightrider.com.
