Harley uses several kinds of connectors. Determine what kind of connector it is, e.g., Deutsch connector, Amp multilock connector, etc. These two types of connectors have multiple pins. With the Amp connector, not all of the pins are necessarily used. You may need to go to your dealer, (or an after-market H-D repair facility) and order extra pins for the connector. They're only a few cents.
Find out which connector it is. Google Deutsch connector and Amp multi-lock connector for more information.

Ok, you have an 07 Ultra. I'm still a bit in the dark about what you are adding to the radio harness. Can you provide the item part number and the page in the service manual that you are looking at.

What year bike?

If you have the HD Service Manual, it will identify the brand and number of wires in the connector in a lengthy table of numbered connectors in the Appendix.

The "secondary lock" is typically the a plastic piece that fits over the end of the connector--usually a different color plastic than the connector itself--and provides the "front" of the connector that goes into the radio--for example, on the Base Audio Connector that was used on '05 and older models to plug into the back of the radio, was a 23 place AMP connector, and the secondary lock is red plastic.

The "other" lock is the tab that secures the individual wires (sockets/pin terminals at their ends) to the connector that is moved slightly using a pick tool to release the wire from the connector. To get to the individual wires the secondary lock is removed.
