Default Carb issues

I know this subject is been discussed before and I have done my searches, but no direct compairison was found.
OK it's 2005 road king custom, 1300 miles, on the bike, I got true dual rinehart and KN high flow intake filter, that is all I know of.
Sympthoms: Bike would be running fine, and after riding for a while, sometimes when I try to come to a stop and I press the clutch the bike cough/ fart and dies. And the weird think it doesn't happen all the time,
Another one is If I'm stopped at a red light idling for a bit as I pull the gas getting ready to take off, same think cough /fart and dies.
Now please note both situation are when bike is warm/hot, the other thing is the condition is intermittent, I could go on for half an hour in traffic stop and go all the abuse, without nothing going wrong, or if the bike is in a bad mood, it would do it constantly for like 5 minutes and all of the sudden like someone fixed the bike it's fine again and I can stop and go without a problem. I couldn't even simulate the condition to the dealer to see the problem, because the bike would be on a good mood when I take it there.

Mine did the same. Check manifold rubber gasket between carb & intake & low speed jet. Low speed jet is so small it clogs real easy. Replace with one size larger. Gasket sometimes gets pinched during other work like putting on K&N breather. Tech accidently pulls carb part way off & then pushes it back on pinching it so it sucks air. Both fixed mine & haven't had that trouble for last 5 years. Hope this helps.

If the idle circuit is real lean , and it usually is , the bike can be more finicky at idle at times.
Once you get it fattened up a bit , it will have more good days than bad.
You could try just pulling the enrichener **** out about 1/4" when it's acting up and see if it helps.
If it does help , you'll need to get the jetting up some.
If you have the stated mods done with the stock jetting , it should be a problem now.
My combo is in my sig at the bottom and it has been working for me , and the mileage is very good.
About mid 30's around town and mid 40's on the highway.
Good luck.

It sounds kinda like maybe with you RK being a 2005 with only 1300 miles your bike is pissed off because you don't ride it enough.... NO just kidding My 04RK started doing the same thing last summer. It drove me NUTS. I checked everything several times, Hell even pulled the CV and tried a brand new 42 Mikuni and it still did the same thing. It ended up getting worse and worse. Then one day I just happend to look down and I saw a little tiny tinny drip of gas comming from the Petcock, BINGO thats what it was. The petcock had the slightest little crack in it, just enough to make the engine run very rich at low speed idle. Rich enough to make the engine die. I'd bet you problem is in your petcock. The part was around $20.00 if I remember correct.
Let us know what you found....

Hmmm. I have a '05 rk custom. The carb has been jetted for the AC and pipes. So far, I have not experienced this, but will keep an eye on this thread to see if you can determine what the issue is... good luck...
