Doing my 10K service today I discovered the rubber part of my SE high flow air filter was blown out. I mean to say it was torn and broken on the bottom edge of the back rubber base ring. I went to the stealership for a new one. They said they had a few of those doing the same thing. The replacement they sold me was oil free!! They said the new one had better rubber and was not to be oiled. Just pop it in dry and go! We;ll see how it performs.
probably one of the "new" screaming eagle air filter elements with the blue rubber surround. I've heard of LOTS of problems with those. The filter media tears loose and gets sucked into the motor. Many people have had this happen with the original and a replacement before they just bought a K&N filter to go in there.
What are the major differences between K&N and Screamin Ealgle?
I haven't seen one personally. Thankfully, I have a K&N filter in my hypercharger. But from what I hear, the new screaming eagle filters with the blue surround gasket, are made of a high flow paper and that is why they are not supposed to be oiled. They also do not have a lifetime/million mile warrantee like K&N. I've heard of these elements being disintigrated by the time some guys have made it to their 1000 mile service.
Actualy I had the blue rubber version and it was an oiled filter. It didnt seem like a lack of oil at all. The element itself wasnt really damaged it was mainly just the rubber on the baseplate side.Just kinda blew out in a 2" area. The one I got yesterday is black rubber and an oil free version.
I know the K&N replacement was only $32.99 @ Autozone!
Replacement for the hi-flow or for the original?
If it's for the hi-flow, I think I'll replace the dry filter I have. I too, was surprised when I went to install this hi-flow kit and found the blue trimmed dry filter....
Well gents this how you fix all of your Air Filter problems: When I got my Ultra I had a Stage One installed and the stealership installed a KN filter. I liked it untill it started spitting oil on my exhaust. I then did some reasearch and found that Arlen Ness had developed a new Air Filter System call the The Big Sucker. I replaced my KN filter with this Big Suckre and have no regrets. The backing plate sticks out about a half of a inch further than the KN so you Suck more ait in to the Carb. With the PC111 on my Ultra I have had no problems with backfire when I can't use the right gas when on trips in the boonies.
