Default Lugging

I have a 2008 FLHX and would like to know from people who have owned longer their opinions on lugging. What RPM range do you normally keep above in each gear and what is the result of not doing so....?

My bike had the 103" upgrade in it when I brought it home. I am pulling 102 tq at 2600 rpm. My bike pulls real strong anywhere above 2,000 rpms. Throttle response is pretty good as well even in 6th gear.

The twinkies don't like to be lugged, bad on the crank. You can feel it when you are lugging, drop a gear and let it rev up some.

If your puttin down a slight grade under 2000 RPMs, no problem. If you open the throttle to power up a grade and your under 2000, you are lugging. Very hard on the lower end. Also very hard on piston skirts too. The 96" likes to rev, seem that's where the tourque is with stock cams, is above 25 to 28 hundered Rs.

I don't ride under 2800 even though my 103" build is 100+&nbsp\\;tq by 2600. These motors like to run a little higher than many feel comfortable running em. I would never consider cruising in any conditions under 2800, maybe putting through a school zone, but not for any distance and certainly not in 4th-6th....
