Nah, they ain't that bad.&nbsp\\; Just tie a small nut to a piece of string and let gravity do its thing.&nbsp\\; I've been running 'Z' bars on my rigid for years and love 'em.&nbsp\\; Want to put a set on my SG, just have to find the right dimensions.

Default RE: Paughco Apes?

I just finished installing a set of paughco 15" Z bars (black) on my black pearl 07 SG yesterday. The first set I ordered were scratched and chipped, the 2nd pair witch I had to pay $40.00 for next day air, ( leaving for CA Monday) seemed a little better at first, still had a lot of scratches. The install went ok it takes awhile to do all the soldering. I used magnum chromium 2 black pearl cables and Russel brake lines, looks friggin great, (sorry no pictures). Once I got the wiring done and went to put the grips on I found out that from the end of the bars to where the 1 1/4" transition area is was 3/4 of an inch too long, I thought maybe I was just retarded and was missing something, maybe I am lord knows my spelling sucks. I did measure the chubbly 575 and the stock bars for comparison and the Paughco's were longer so I had to cut off 3/4" to make it work. To make matters worse when I lined the bars up evenly on the handle bar clamps it made them uneven up higher so I had to slide them over to the left side and bend the bars to finally make it look and feel right.

&nbsp\\;I would of sent them back and went with different bars but after all the time and effort it took I just sucked it up and modified them to make it work. I will have to ditch the fairing mirrors later because the bars are in the way but, for now I have added handle bar mounted mirrors along with the stock ones.

Those were my problems with the bars now for my thoughts and opinion on them if all went well and the fit and finish were the way they should of been and look now.

They look really good and feel good but I prefer real ape hangers, I like them high especially on long runs like the one I am leaving on today, I knew they were only 15" but they looked so damn good on another members ride and had a 40" width on them or if you get a set like I did, 41 and a 1/2 inches (most have 38" width) I went with them anyway. I also did not realize or chose not to realize that these bars even though they have a rise of 15" at the top they angle down 8" (measured from Z tip to center of grips). Should maybe be called baby apes.

I am leaving on a trip to CA and will be touring for about 5 weeks so I most likely won't be able answer any questions anyone may want to ask, please feel free to shoot me a PM if I can answer anymore questions or give any install tips and I will get back with you when I can.

Yes, I have em.&nbsp\\; Yes, I like em.&nbsp\\; Yes, they were a bitch to wire.....anyone who says otherwise hasn't wired a 40" wide set for a bagger.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
As for the quality, mine were 1st rate in paint &amp\\; specs.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;Ordered em thru chopperscycle.com.&nbsp\\; It took a few extra weeks due to&nbsp\\;getting damaged in shipping from manufacturer but they caught it&nbsp\\;before sending em out to me and notified me of the delay.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
I, too, prefer higher bars on my other bike but not on a bagger.&nbsp\\; These are perfect for my SG.&nbsp\\; Just returned home from my 1st good long road trip (7days = 3800 miles)&nbsp\\;with em (combined with klock werks new flare windshield)....nothing but full comfort \\&nbsp\\;

Thanks for sharing. I am trying to decide between these and the Bagger Nation Apes. I like the BNs but they sure are pricey. G$ they sure look good on your bike.
