Electra Glide
Hello folks, I've been looking to buy a Harley and my choices in the beginning has been the Heritage Classic, a RoadKing and then the EG. also thought a bit about a FB as well. lol.
I plan on riding it to work, which is about 5 miles, but plan on taking a road trip at least once a year say in the 2500 miles round trip range. I'm in calif so that makes it a bit more complicated as the State has it rules on bringing bike in, if they are used and have 6k i believe its not a problem with smog crap.
Locally the 08 are a pretty good deal as they are still sitting in the dealer show room floors, this evening i check my areas craigslist and came across the add below. When you go to buy a bike to you go by the book and condition only? ie. don't really look at all the add on stuff? It's hard for me to look at all the add on when it gets close to a bone stock bike with 0 miles., i know extra add up for sure.
I've ridden a few bikes a couple of years ago and I visited my local dealer two weeks ago and they have called now asking "come on in" well I told them i'd rather buy a year or two old with like under 5k and hopin extras are there I might enjoy, exhaust etc. So i plan on going back this week and test driving a couple bikes.
I have short legs and the 06 Electra Glide Standard fits me. I felt too stretched out on the Road Glide, but my buddy has one and loves it. My standard is or (was) pretty plane but I have enjoyed adding my touch and still adding my touch. Go sit and ride and if the dealer won't let you test drive than go somewhere else.
Do more than test ride the bikes. Rent them for a day and get a real feel for what you want.
I concur 110%. That is the very best advise anyone in the market for a new bike could get. It takes way more than a quick 15 min test ride for me to evaluate a bike. Then I have to be able to add up the cost of making the bike more to my likeing.....this will take at least a day or two. Just tell the sales person how you feel about test riding a bike....and that you NEED to take it for a EXTENDED test ride.....then decide what bike you want.
My dealer gave me the keys to an 07 EGC and said take it for a couple of hours. We put about 60 to 100 miles on it. Went back the next dayand ordered my 08 EGC with abs and security. Coming from a metric its the best I ever did!!
