Default Speedometer error

Why do you think on a 20 Thousand Dollar plus motorcycle the MoCo can't make the speedometer be correct? My bike is totally stock and it is at least 5mph slow. My ridding buddy rides a Springer and has a Gps and it shows his is off 5mph also. Is there some reason for this?
Every motorcycle I have ever owned the speedometer has read slow. Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks

Did either one of you guys change your wheel diameter. This will have an effect on your speedo reading. The difference your reading is the same as mine. I have an 18" wheel up front. A friend of mine has a little more difference. The calculated miles on a trip distance will change also.
If my trip on the GPS is 300 miles long invariably it will read longer according to the trip odometer on the bike. Go figure......

An accurate speedometer would cost much more! The MOCO wouldn't make enough $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Now you know the rest of the story!

I just got a Zumo 450 and it shows both my speedo and odometer to be spot on. the speedo is right on at every speed and in 200 miles the tripometer was off .5 miles. 04 Electraglide. when my speedo shows 60 the gps shows 60 when speedo shows 80 the gps shows 80. I impressed.

My 05 deluxe runs 5 mph slow too, it's Harley's way to lower our speeding ticket fines! Haha...I don't even know why HD puts speedo s on the bikes, we don't care how fast we're going--all we care about is that we are rolling on wheels, going wherever the road takes us.

No GPS here (the only accurate way to check it), but radar checks show mine to be dead on correct.

My wheels are stock and the radar checks consistently show mine as being 5 mph slow. Kinda irritating.
