I know that I saw some postings about the oil temp gauge sending unit install on 07 SG but I have a hard time with the search. I bought the kit from HD but I looked the instructions over and it requires another kit for the 07 ,I guess that is for the sending unit that goes in the front of the oil pan? saw some post of picking up a sending unit at the auto parts vers the high dollar HD.........
If you look at your oil pan, there should be two drain plugs. One on the left side of the pan, and one a bit more toward the middle. You remove the one in the middle.....dont touch your drain plug....well until your ready to dump the oil (you dont have to dump all the oil to do the install). You will need a adapter that will fit into the oil pan, and have the sending unit fit in the other side of it. I bought mine in Home Depot....just your basic NPT job......just take the sending unit and plug with you so you can match up the threads. IMHO this method of install is much better than the MOCO's suggested method.
I love having the oil temp gauge.....it is totally seamless the face looks exactly like the other gauge faces on the SG.....and the gauge function is spot on accurate....I checked the oil in the sump's temp with my shop gauge and my HD dip stick with thermometer on it, and the 2" gauge is right on. I think they are made by Auto-Meter VERY high quality gauges.
Anyhow if you use the search function, you will fine some threads showing exactly how to do the install...even with pics!
If nothing has changed from '06 to '07, the adapter part # from Napa would be 3220x6x2, or 3/8 NPT (M) x 1/8 NPT (F). This pic might also help. You would want to use the one labeled crank which is the recessed plug. The hex plug is your oil drain plug.

Don't install the gauge using the additional $50 '07 adapter kit! It is a waste of money and your gauge may not work properly. Besides, if you have an oil cooler you don't need it anyway. Go instead with the oil-pan adapter from Napa.
BTW, you don't need to run more than one wire from the sender to the gauge. Here's a diagram of the proper wiring:
Consider moving the voltmeter to the air temp slot, and install the oil temp gauge in the voltmeter's former location--having the oil pressure and temp gauges together makes it easier to scan them IMO.
thanks for the input..........HPM ...good call on the moving the gauge it was in the plan, and was wanting to use the ATG wires ....this was to easy thanks again
Spizzyman, put a copy of the HD Parts & Accessories catalog in the can and read the touring section. In no time at all, you'll be well-versed on these changes.
You can check HD's website for the oil temp gauge (they're available in stock face, silver, and spun aluminum) and determine if they will work on an '03.
Don't see why they wouldn't work on an '03 since it doesn't involve the ECM or the speedo/tach gauges.

Been there, done that. There are times when instructions can seem like gibberish, so I ask those who may know. I have an oil temp guage that I am getting ready to install and the 07 comment threw me a little. After reading the instructions, it appears the added parts are not needed for an 03. This is my first Harley and there are lots of things new to me. Thanks
I originally installed my sending unit in the oil pan as described here, but over the past winter I decided to install it according to the MoCo instructions. It really wasn't as difficult as it appeared.
