What's funny is, the wife (Texas born and raised) is itching to go! She has a sister in Phoenix which helps, but she like I is excited about the possible change in scenery, friends, locale as bigskyhd notes. My 80 y/o parents still here are all for it........my biggest challenge is my married 25 y/o daughter! I think she is too much of a Daddy's girl. This came up last Spring and then fell off but man she cried buckets.

Just girding myself up for her to get crushed again. There are ways to make a tough ol motorcycle guy sad. Just look at the little girl tear up does it every time.

Now I know you guys can't help with this problem, just have to convince her again that's why they made airplanes!

I certainly understand. One of our moves required leaving the oldest in CA while we moved to the east coast. It was a real tear jerker. But at 25, she's old enough now to stretch that umbilical cord a little, if not cut it at this stage. Frequent visits will help, and remember, air fare to Vegas is always the cheapest in the nation cause it's supported through the gaming industry.. So plenty of cheap trips will help keep you close, and lessen or at least ease the loss for both you and the daughter. Good luck

Thanks bigskyhd......very good points/advice. Will be chatting with my Boss next week about it and setting up a "check out the real estate" trip.

Best of both riding seasons, noth to UT CO and even ID WY in summer and then AZ and CA in winter. Sound like a good move. I've lived in IN MI OH and love the west but in SLC, UT we do have to put them up for a few months. Good luck.

Sounds like you could use a change of scenery and some new adventure. Have you considered the effect, in your current company position and in your own mind, of your turning this down? Seems like a no brainer to me.
Hell, you can always return to your home state, if things don't work out - at least you would have given it a shot.

My wife and I own three acres right outside of Kingman in Mohave County. We’ve both been all over Arizona and neighboring states because we had relatives there to visit during holidays and vacations. If you really want to experience some good ol’ summertime heat, just spend a few days up the road in Bullhead City across from Laughlin, NV. Now that’s some heat!

With the kids grown and gone we seriously consider every now and then about selling out and moving there. The only thing that concerns us is the illegal alien situation that Arizona is dealing with; and as I understand, they are trying their best to deal with it. True, it’s much worse in the southern part of the state but the issue is just enough to make us hesitant when it comes to relocating there for good.

I will say this: something is definitely happening in Mohave County/Kingman because the property tax on our acreage almost doubled from the year before.

AZ is one of those states that provides a WIDE variety of riding. There is a certain peace of mind that comes from those wide open stretches of two-lane where you can see the road slowly dip down into a barren valley floor with mountains on either side of you. I think a lot of us ride for that very reason! Flagstaff..SO much good riding around there. The big hole in the ground, Sedona, and I'm personally a huge fan of some of the roads SE of Flagstaff. Lots of gently bending turns on two-lane roads lined with towering Ponderosa.

I'd take the transfer! Make the family come visit YOU!!!

(wife will come with.....is that a good thing?)

I've been out there 4 or 5 times over the years visiting/helping our plant in the area. What's it like riding out there? Will I miss the trees and twisties of southern IN, KY and OH? Riding the Mojave always looks like a blast, but after awhile I would like some varied scenery I think. Never made the Grand Canyon area, but I guess it would be within easy reach. One more thing.........will I have to de-tune to meet regs in AZ or CA (assume CA is part of normal riding from there).

Always great thoughts and comments on here so thought this would be a good place to ask!

Thanks,
Rob
08 RKC with Xieds, Rush "open" mufflers, SE 1 and more to come in spring! (his)
05 VStar 1100 jetted, Bub Huggers, Hi-5 air kit and fast! (hers)

I live in Phoenix and love the riding weather year round, except those 16 weeks of untolerable heat. I don't even look at my bike for those weeks, but the other 36 weeks are great. I ride to New Mexico, El Paso, TX, and LA from here. Great rides up into Sedona and Flagstaff, Jerome, Tucson, Bisbee, etc.
Some people do rides to Silver City, NM, about 200+ miles from here, great scenery.
Put synthetics oils, bikes run a little cooler.
The "stealers" set up bike rides just about every weekend, including summers.
Good luck!
