Default Music on a Road King

I'm looking for a set up which will allow me to listen to my iPod while riding but will also allow me to hear horns, sirens and any other road sounds I need to hear. It seems that the ear canal ear buds which double as ear plugs would protect my hearing from wind noise and provide good sound, but I'm afraid I won't hear the road sounds I need to hear. I'm thinking that the helmet speakers may be the way to go. However, I'm not sure I would be able to hear the music through my ear plugs. (Riding without hearing protection is not an option for me. I can hear horns, sirens, etc. just fine through regular foam ear plugs).

Any thoughts you have on this subject would be appreciated.

+1,I have been fighting with the same problem.I have been looking at deadcenter and quadzilla fairings, but they are extremely high dollar.I wonder how good the stereo HD makes for the king in the accessory book sounds. But in answer to your question I have tried 4 or 5 different earbuds and such and have not found a solution yet.

I've had J&M amplified speakers on my FLHRI for about 5 years. Sounds great, looks great and has an external volume control that mounts on your left side handlebar clamp. Works great for me.

That's what I got on my Sportser. They sound pretty good for bar mounted speakers.
