I have the system from www.cyclesounds.com on my RKC and it is greatness. I can hear my tunes on the highway with a full face helmet with no problem. Just slap your Ipod on and go. If I park at a store I just pull the Ipod off and put it in my pocket until I can get back on the bike.

Cool Tunes

I ride with a dude that added an inexpensive stereo from gooddeals18.com. He says it's impossible to hear at highway speeds with all the abient noise.

I have a high-power system in my Dragonfly Cycle fairing and have to blast pretty loud to hear mine going fast. Obviously, the quality drops as you add noise like your pipes.

If high fidelity was an issue I'd ride around in my cage with the windows up.

Here was the solution I came up with for my Road King. I couldn't be happier. One of the best decisions I've made. Dead Center Fairing, and then I painted it to match my King. Nice hearing the tunes and the horns simultaneously. I felt the same way you described. I can hear the tunes, and highway noises with a Full Face Modular. You might consider it.

Is that the 3" or 2" model that they sell on their website?

http://www.mmi.org/merrington/radio.html

Consolidate page w/ links to most of the products mentioned here, including various chrome speaker systems, fairing/stereo products, and the windshield radios (although not a fan of the last one), good bookmark to have on hand...

Some dead links there, but a good place to start, and drill down into each site looking for details on costs, finishes, etc.

I don't mean to take away from the original question, but am curious:

How many of you ride with a "standard" setup?...mp3 player in pocket with earbuds under the helmet? I figure with a windshield it shouldn't be too bad eh?

Although it is legal here in Ct, the states around me, like Mass and Rhode Island it is illegal. New York you can only have one ear bud in to be legal.
Now that being said, there is no law against earplugs or being deaf.

I used to use a star com system which worked really well the only thing I didnt like was it was also a Com system so you had the boom Mic Kinda Tacky you can remove it if you want to do some rewiring I think. Allowed me to hear road noises but I did wear a half helmet all the time (So FL.) and you have to like being attached to wires. I went to a detachable RK fairing little costly but well worth it.

I went the lowers route. I bought a used set of lowers from ebay, had them painted. Order a 200 watt amp and hog tune speakers from ebay also.

Now I am changing out my bars as we type and will order a IPOD mount from GILBO as soon as I am done.
