When I asked my dealer about this, I was told there was also an $80 per piece charge for prep. It's mentioned in the catalog, though it's not very clear. Let us know what you learn.
For $1200 you're getting a scuff and shoot..I'd be a little leary.
As long as the original paint job is in good shape, there's no reason to do anything other than scuff and shoot. Taking it down to primer or bare metal isn't going to give you a better paint job in that case.
$1200 for the entire bike. I'd say that's a steal. I paid $500 just to get my batwing painted, and I did all the labor to take it apart and reassemble. You say "They" want $1200.... Who is they? Have you seen their finished products? Have you talked to folks that have had them do work? Best thing about painters, is references. Oh, and don't ever plan on getting it back when they say they'll have it. In 40 years of riding and having bikes painted, that only happened once. Good Luck.
Like Bigskyhd said look at some of their work, see how it's holding up to rock chips etc... Ask what product line their using as well, if it's an upper end paint line then materials alone will run in the $500+ range.
It is hd that is doing the work.there is the prep charge, but they have to be free of defects or there is more cost if they have to fix them.plus you have to disasemble and have the dealer ship unless youpay the dealer to do it.if you did it your self and just need paint it is a good deal
