36/36 solo or with light passenger around town. Touring with passenger and luggage, 36/40. Lower than 40 in the rear with a load will cause heat buildup and accelerated wear, not to mention substandard handling at 75 mph.

36 / 38
But maybe I'll try 40 in the rear to see how the bike rides

I agree with Terry! 40PSI in the back is a must, if you want to extend the life your rear tire!

I run 36 in front and 40 in rear for tire wear.

Of all the replies, no one mentioned tire brand. Don't Metzler's require a higher pressure than the stock Dunlops? Reason I ask is, I'm getting a new rear (Metzler) tomorrow. Seems like I read where Metzler recommended 44 psi in the rear.

You can save rear tire rubber by curtailing your "rabbit" starts. I should listen to my own advice. 36/36 offers a smoother ride and 36/40 produces a harsher ride but better gas mileage. So, I run 36/38 on my Ultra. No heavy rear load on the RG so I run 36/36.
