Default Independents

How many out there use independents for service? I have plenty of HD shops somewhat close but am really looking at an independent shop (Buckeye Choppers) for service and purchase of goodies (chrome, etc.) for my bagger. Stopped in there today to look around and really liked what I saw (and heard from the owner). Even though I can handle most any service type jobs on my ride, just don't always have the time for it (fulltime job and don't want to miss out on seat time). Is this something I should shy away from and always go to HD shops? BTW, will get at least 10% off of all purchases in the shop.

Parts at Zanotti HD, 20% or more off. Bike goes to the dealer for warranty issues ONLY, and even then I cringe! I always check it very closely upon return. Many dealer techs do "after hours work" at very reasonable rates, anything from simple service to major motor builds. You can learn a lot by watching a pro, lending a hand and offering free beer.

I do realize that there are other places that I can get more a discount at....not really the point entirely. Would like to develop a relationship with a knowledgeable local shop. This shop does seem like a place that I could spend some time at and learn alot of tricks. It's on the way to work and would be super convenient (of course free installation on what I buy there). They don't advertise Hard Krome 3" T-Rex/duals but I won't hold that against them yet

I agree, the only thing my bike will go to the dealer hereafter is warranty work only. I'm having my breakin service and my air cleaner and PC 111 done by my local indy. I feel my particular indy knows Harleys inside out but he is much cheaper at 65.00 an hour as well.

i only use an independant, most will really treat you pretty good once they know they will be the ones takin care of your ride. mine treats me real well and dont always put a dollar value on minor adjustments and repairs.
