Clutch Cable Question
Putting new bars on my bike and went to install the clutch cable. removed old cable from the bars first then removed the trans cover. had enough slack the was able to remove cover with out removing snap ring and bearings. got my new cable installed with out removing snap ring and etc. also. Went to put cover back on. Is the tranny cover supposed to sit straight flush? or is this just some pressure when you run yout bolts in. i had just little gap on the rear then it pulled in with the bolts. Now that i have it all together my clutch cable is tight. wouldnt you think a new cable would be loose to start with or do they start tight most the time? any input would help! thanks
I' m definately not a mechanic but I know the few times I have changed cables I was told to take the tension out of the cable @ the adjuster by your engine gaurd before you remove the cable from the clutch pak. Try and adjust the cable with the inline adjuster, you should have about an 1/8 or 1/16 play at your clutch lever. If that doesn't work you with have to pull your inspection plate off primary and adjust clutch there. A service manual is great for this job if you have one.
