I have an '03 Road Glide. I raised the handlebars 3" and my original clutch cable was very tight especially steering to the right, so I ordered a new cable +3". I am following every letter in my Service Manual but can't seem to get it adjusted. I gave the cable all the slack possible and tried to make adjustments behind the derby cover as per the manual. I have no pull when squeezing the clutch lever (too much cable), the lever doesn't do anything. The inner cable seems too long for the outside vinyl cover: I don't get it. Hopefully I'm just not doing some silly little thing (like when you are on a computer and you don't know to hit "that" key...and your 5 year grandson points it out to you). Anyway, I need some guidance here. Help anyone?
The cable may be too long, I put 8.5 mini apes on my rg and ran the stock cable inside the bars and in front of the crash bars...no issues. Did you adjust the cable housing all the way in (shortest) before adjusting the clutch assembly?
Thank you; I appreciate your suggestions.
The tranny end of the cable is attached to the metal part which links-up with the one side at the 3 pocket *****...I believe it to be properly installed. I don't mind checking again, though loosening the exhaust pipes is a pain in the backside. I love HD bikes, but you would think Harley could design a tranny cover you could remove without dismantling exhaust pipes and a floorboard.
sounds like 1 of 2 things cable could be to long for your bars or u havent adjusted the cable right try backing out the adjustment more to get the slake out. if the two halves come apart your cable is to long.
Got my grand daughter over (she's 4 1/2, that OK?) She says you did not hook the the cable end into the ramp lever properly. She assumes you do not have some off brand junk cable that is in-properly made. She says even if it was too long it would still work. You just could not pull it up neat to the front of the bike.

If the handle on the 3 ball ramp was pointing down at say, 6:00 O'Clock, then the ramp is probably OK. If it was farther forward than that, take it apart and pull the slack out of the cable from down there, and re-install. ( Your cable can't be too long, you just would have too much cable. There's a difference!)
