I don't know much about this topic, and would like to understand a little more about the Engine idle Temperature Management system. I do rider actually use it?
on the 09 once it hits a cetain tep (hot ) u roll the throttle forward and it cuts the rear cyclender.on 07 and 08 u can get a download that will atuomaticly cut it but in 08 it was a midyear change and im not sure if u can control it maually or not.
I have an '08 Ultra and it has it. What you do is roll BACK the throttle and hold it there until a light shows where the cruise indicator is, green is activated, yellow is deactivated. When activated it will shut down the rear cylinder when hot and stopped for more than a few minutes or while moving extremely slow, such as a parade or heavy traffic, and the rear cylinder will become active again once you get going normal. If you are in the active mode and need to take off in a hurry forget it, it will not jump. If you have a fuel management device you wont need to activate.

So just hold in the cluch and roll back on the throttle until the light shows green?

Here's a recent thread that on page 2 starts a "discussion" of the system.

Doesn't even need to be running, as long as the ignition and run switch are on, roll it back and hold until the light comes on. You really don't want to do this while sitting in traffic because it will cause a high idle condition which requires another process to undo.

Sorry, but you role the throttle forward not back. It wont increase your idle speed and you can turn the idle heat management on and off while the bike is running or not. Also it only works while you are stopped, once you start moving it shuts off.

I was in Florida stuck in traffic on I-95 in 90 degree heat. Every time I stopped the heat would dissapate from my right leg immediately. The idle was abit rough but not annoying and accelerating from a stand still was very smooth. The heat returns quickly when accelerating. I was really amazed at the difference in temperature when the cylinder was firing and when it was shut off. Glad HD designed this feature into our bikes.
