Default AAAARRRRGGG!...Can't remove ECM! Bolt spins

Getting ready for the used T-Max bought from forum member Gamb.....I got 02 sensors out and went to remove factory ECM.....AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHH! The top bolt just spins!

The bottom bolt came right out, but the top one spins cause the brass nut is stripped in the plastic housing.....Yeah, I made sure to gently tighten-then loosen the bolt to break the locktite, but it did no good.

Now what do I do?

I already rolled around on the shop floor kicking and screaming, and threw tools around-it's still spins

You should be able to remove the bracket that the ECM mounts to. Look for the 2 nuts that hold the bracket to the frame. Remome them and pull the bracket towards you and then you can get at the nuts that hold the ECM on. At least that is the way my 03 is.

Thanks....Man, I hope they ain't those captive brass nuts pressed into the plastic.....When it was spinning it felt like a ratchet and that made me assume they are pressed in with the little gear teeth thingys making that ratchet feeling as they spin in the plastic.

I saw the two bolts you described that hold the whole plate on, but I had to leave for night shift....I'll ease out there tomorrow after a pot of coffee and a sticky bun then find the tools I tossed, and try it again....If there are standard nuts back there it willl be a snap.

I had the same thing happen. I ended up cutting the ECM bolts off with a hacksaw and replacing the ECM mount. I think it was less than $20. This is not a big deal, just a nuisance. Also, I used a wire brush to remove some of the Locktite off of the new bolts in case I need to remove them in the future. Good luck.

Yep, I'm betting they are brass captive nuts pressed into the plastic plate and I will have to do the same. Hell, I need a dremmel tool anyway, so I'll go buy one and pick up new bolt and mounting plate while I'm out.

They're pressed in nuts.
No need to buy a new mount.
Run a longer bolt through and a washer/screw on the back.
Been there, done that.

I went thru the same crap last weekend putting my PCIII on. It was the bottom bolt for me. Luckily, I was able to remove the top bolt and just swing it out of the way a tad, did what I needed to and tightened things back up and managed to give a bit of pressure on the bottom and the bottom bolt tightened up. Damn POS lol.

THAT'S a danged great idea!

I'll simply install a longer screw by threading it thru the pressed in nut from rear, then use nut and lock washer on outside.

Thanks badpiggy!
