Just put new handlebars on my 06 Ultra (what a pain). When re-installing the ignition switch/fork lock, I can't get it back in position. I followed the service manual instructions but it just won't seat correctly. Any suggestion
I saw this before....someone on this forum had the same problem and someone else had the answer....The answer is here...I just don't have it....keep asking and searching. I remember the fix was simple...something to do with the position of the switch as you put it back on....Sorry not much help.
If I remember right the answer is, your lock cylinder is 180 degrees off. Pull the cylinder back off and turn it 180 degrees put it back in a try again.
Did you get the switch seated?? If you did not, it may be that the tumblers are not lined up properly. Position everything as stated in the manual. I'm assuming that the switch will not seat or engauge when you insert it? Take a flat-tip screwdriver, insert it into the hole/neck where the shaft of the switch goes. Turn the screwdirver (I believe counterclockwise) until you hear one click, now try to insert the switch as stated in the manual. If it still won't go in, turn the screwdriver another click and try again. Keep doing this until it seats properly. This will realign all the tumblers to the proper position. Use a medium size screwdriver where the blade just fits inside the hole..........
I was just doing an ignition switch today and could not get it to seat. You may not have the same problem I did but I will tell you what my problem was. I had the nut screwed off the top of the switch and removed the piece below it. When I reinstalled the piece below it I had initially put it upside down so the grooves were not lined up correctly. I took it apart again and flipped the grooved piece over and reinstalled it. It went together without a problem. I hope this helps.
Got it. One thing I found out thru trial and error, Turn forks to left (lock position), insert screwdriver until it bottoms out, turn counter-clockwise until the forks lock up. Then re-insert screwdriver to the 1st cam position. Turn one click at a time (with the forks still licked) insert switch each time until it seats. This will be in the "fork lock" position and it will seat properly.
