I had the 103 upgrade, with the SE255 cams, cost was about $1400 with a dyno tune included. I already had the Stage I breather kit and a PCIII, as well as true duals installed before the upgrade. You need to give very strong consideration to having compression releases installed when the heads are off. It'll cost a little more, but you will have to have them before you are totally satisfied with the entire upgrade. I know, I know, it says 9.5 compression, etc, and you don't need them, but you are going to have starting problems as a result of the upgrade. People will tell you they did this, they did that, they had a good dyno tune, they had this cam, they did all kinds of stuff and they don't have to use compression releases. I say BULL SHEET. It's gonna cause problems, you just as well cure it while the engine is apart, have the compression releases installed while they can do it cheaper. If you don't believe me, try it without them. You'll find out the hard way (just like I did). PACO

16,000 miles w/o compression release. Paco, how many miles before your problems?

This "far more horsepower" statement is absolutely, 100% incorrect unless you get new heads/head work to go along with the cams. Harley-Davidson's own dyno charts show only ~5hp and ~5tq increases between the 103 ci Stage I kit (no cams) and Stage II kit which includes a pair of 255 cams.

The big bore price seems right, but the price with cams seems a bit steep.
If you're going to go with a cams package, tell them you want 204 cams. They are similiar in duration and the torque will come on a little sooner relative to the 203s.

H-D only recommends the 203 cams for "up to 96 ci" motors. Your dealer should know this.

Your dealer is apparently selling you an SE BB kit intended for the 88" motor, not the 96" motor you have. The 88 and 96 kits use the same cylinders (and, perhaps, the same pistons), but the 96" BB kit uses SE 255 cams as mentioned by Trooper.

Also, because of the SE 203 cams, I don't see how he will have a correct download for you since HD downloads are build-specific and that BB kit with 203 cams is not intended for your 96. He'll have a download for that kit on an 88, and a download for the SE 255 cam kit on a 96.

If you go to this link from HD's website, you can see the various SE packages, including those for the 103:

I did the 103 stage II with 255 cams and a SERT and a Dyno Tune for $1900 then I added a D&D fatcat with ghost pipe for another $900. I got 89 HP and 101 TQ. I am very happy with the power for the money spent. Dealer does 25% off parts and 25% off labor in the winter, makes for some smoking deals.

Here's my 2 cents. Put the 103 kit on my 2007 Road King with Andrews 54H cams. Couldn't be happier with the power, but the bike wouldn't start when hot, took about 20 minutes to cool down enough to start easily and knowing how delicate the stock Harley starters are I had to take it back apart and add compression releases, problem solved. I do all my own work, so it was just a matter of time for me, but if your having to pay someone, then I'd have the releases installed and save yourself the trouble and expense later. Also research the cam situation before using Harley cams, you will be alot more satisfied with Andrews or Woods cams. Just my opinion.
