Default Head light Question

I am in the process of installing a www.kisantech.com PathBlazer headlight modulator on my 08SG.

On the back of my headlight is a black rubber cover that goes around were the bulb goes in.
When I install the modulator it get up against the black rubber cover.

Are you guys leaving out the black rubber when you install the modulator?

The instructions say that the modulator gets hot and I am afraid it will melt into the black rubber.
I called their tech support, but got a recording!

Thanks
