A Nano will run under $150. Small, durable, and built for this. The touch, unless you will use it for other purposes, is a lot of money to lost if it falls off, you forget it on the bike, etc.... I have a nano in my bag with a wired controler near the nose of the seat. Hell, now you can get a 4g ipod shuffle for $79. I would strongly advise against using a touch!

IMHO!

I went on line looking for info but never found any that worked. Do any of you guys know how this can be done.
Funny I went the opposite way. I got tired of burning so many different discs. So I bought an 8gb Nano to use on the scoot. Took forever to re-rip everything into acc format. I think I am at about 130 albums now. Still have 1.5gb left.

As far as your question you can rip mp3 format from your CDs using itunes. Just go into advance settings and change the format from acc to mp3. I'd keep them at 128kps. You should be able to fit 8-10 full CDs on one disc.

Ride safe

Agreed. The hard drive cannot withstand the vibration. I have a Nano, which HAS no hard drive, and it works great.

I am running an iPod nano and mounted it on the left side of the key switch. made a bracket and painted it black. You don't even notice it's there. Also I got a 3 foot cord and cut it down to 8 inches. it works great. I will post pics one's I figure it out.

The cord I referenced in the earlier post is required for the charging function. It will also work on the nanos. Another huge benefit to that cord is that the music is cleaner than at the 3.5 plug as well as the fixed volume. It will also charge your IPHONE if needed.
