Default Single Front Brake

Guys, I am putting a set of RC wheels 21/18 on my bike with a single 13" rotor and a 6 piston brake (not sure which brand yet) I am sending my fork legs to ChromeMasters for plating. My question did any of you guys machine off your extra right side brake mount yourself? If so how did you do it? I know you can buy legs already machined/plated for around $400, I can have them plated for $175.00. Just trying to save all the money I can, and I enjoy working on my bike. Thanks Gary

I shaved mine down when I installed the 13" and 6 piston. I think i used the band saw to cut the majority off, then a grinder to get it close. I then swapped over to the angle die grinder with sanding pads until scotch brites were needed. You can get it very close with the scotch brite pads on the die grinder. You will have to swap over to sand paper until you're wet sanding with about a 1000 grit to get it perfect. Just remember to take your time and dont cut too much. Dont forget to leave the fender tab on and make it nice and round. That was probably the hardest part of the removal. I could try and round up some pics of my legs if you wish. I used Atlas Plating out of Houston. Price then was $140 a set. I also had them do my rear pulley at a far price as well. Check them out. The customer service was top notch and the quality is perfect. They sanded and polished the legs before chroming as well. Dont forget your flush mount axle to set off those new legs. I went with Adjure flush mount. You may consider sending your spacers off to be chromed or pick up a set of aftermarkets such as Arlen Ness, they're fairly inexpensive, maybe even cheaper than chroming the stock ones.

Not nearly as labor intensive, but you could buy a set of take-off lowers from a softail and use the right side lower on your bike. The techs at my dealership recommended this approach when I was considering a single piston set-up. Decided to keep both rotors and do a Brembo conversion.

Good luck with your project.

Better look close at those Softail lowers.
They're not identical.
The Softail lowers have a taper.
