Default Weather Question

I am leaving on a 12 day ride on May 18th leaving VA and going through TN,AR,OK,KS,IL,IN,KY,WV and then back to VA.

Now my question is for anyone of you guys living in any one of those states.

What is the typical weather like during the last part of May in those states??

Lately it seems like it has been pretty bad, with lots of Tornados and Hail, and all around shi--y weather, is that the norm this time of year out there and does it get better closer to June?? What should I expect, or should I rethink this route this time of year??

Any insight would be very helpful, Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

In Indiana you just never know. Should be nice, but it can change at anytime. There saying here goes "if you dont like the weather just wait aminute and it will change" i wouldnt worry about it, it will be what it will be! just ride and have a great trip!

I can't speak for the weather in all those states but if you use Cingular they have a service that cost about 4 bucks a month that shows real-time weather radar on your cell phone for any zip code you put in. I use it all the time avoiding pop-up storms. It works well in north Alabame and southern Tennessee.

Here is a web site that I use all the time. http://www.wunderground.com/ at the top you can enter a town or zipcode then you can scroll down and do a custom search for an entire year for that town and find out exacty what the weather was - or in your case after you log on to http://www.wunderground.com/ simply go over to "Trip planner" click on that, enter a town and give it your dates that you are looking at and it will give you the expected weather for that town and time. Here is a search for your dates in Memphis, Tenn

Thundercloud...I grew up in Kansas...Saw lots of bad weather in the months of May and June. Have currently lived in central Illinois for 14 years. Weather not as bad until this year. Lots of crappy weather ie wind, hail, twisters in the last month and a half. May is historically the worst month for severe weather in the tornado belt.

The WB (weather band) radio on my Ultra Classic has helped to escape bad weather many times and also permitted me to ride when it looks bad but the WB said, it is justttt
passing by and all will be fine. In tornado country keep your tank on the full side. Not with just the thougth to out-run in mind but more if you have to travel away from a bad location and do not find fuel because you do not know the terrain since your not a local and you changed route.

I will be doing a solo this summer from MD to Moline, Il then Iowa and CO if time permits.
Good luck and enjoy.

Those damn monkey's still give me the heebie jeebies! Don't worry about the tornados, they are so random there is no way to plan for them. If the sky looks dark, ominus and threatening, find a shelter and wait it out. Most of the severe catagory storms pass quickly, 15-30 minutes and you're on your way. Go for it. Don't know where you'll be in Indiana, but if your passing through Salem, let me know.

Fly! Fly!
Here's a tip from a former Okie. If you see a funnel cloud in your line of travel, change your line of travel. They don't chase you. Or, if it hits the fan and you don't have time to change direction, find an over pass. Get under it, set your ride down and get up as far as you can int he overpass and hang on!
