My local indy put a Metzeler on the rear of my '06 Ultra today. I pick it up and it's a 140/90/16 instead of mu85/16 like the stock Dunlop. Is this a problem or is this the proper size for a Metzler? Also he told me to run 47 lbs air pressure, said I would get better wear. I always ran 40 in the Dunlop. I agreed to try the Metzler but did not anticipate the size or pressure differences. Comments greatly appreciated!!!
You're fine. The 140 is a mm designation. It is slightly wider then the 130mm it replaced.
As for tire pressure, yes the Metzeler tire requires more air pressure. I run the 140/90/16 on the rear of my Road King but I was told to run 50 psi. Have just under 10K miles on the rear tire and it is still looking good.
Thanks BK, that makes me feel better. The tire seemed to run good, I just needed peace of mind. Good to know on the air pressure too. Hope it lasts longer than the 402.
Hate to be a pessamist (i'm sure my spelling is bad) I ran the metzler 880's once!! yes higher pressure, that was metzlers answer to a bad wear pattern. I got 7500 miles on them.
I've got the Michelin on mine now and love them, but Metz were all I used on my BMWs and they were always great tires. Great grip and in wet conditions imho.
Your going to like the Metz's I have over 8k on my rear and probably have another 6-8k left on it. I use to get uneven wear on the stock dunnies and get a wobble, put on avons and I won't even start on their poor quality and even worst customer service, put on metzlers and have never looked back..great tires.
