I know HD put out a line of Wrinkle Black but they forgot on important piece. My fuel door reflects the sun onto my windshield and blinds me. I looked for a fuel door that was a flat black and the cheapest one I could find was $120 from Performance Machine. Yikes!
Well, I paid a local guy, North American Powder Coating, here in Tucson, $10 to powder coat the fuel door in wrinkle black. $10 man! I wasn't charged a set up fee cause he's always set up for wrinkle black.
Anyway, not only did it turn out perfect but it matches the insert that comes stock in the dash. Check out the pics!
Looks good I am currently working on changing out my chrome on my bike. I am trying to decide to let the powder coater have my parts and do the wrinkle black or pull and sale my parts and buy the ones from HD. I am going with a combination of gloss black and wrinkle and small bits of chrome I hate cleaning my bike but I like it to look good all the time. So your powder coater matched the parts up to the same texture as HD factory.
Looks like a good match. I'll be in the same boat, replacing chrome with black... I figure I'll have the local powdercoater(s) do a test piece and see who has the best match.
Yeah, the guy that did my p/c works with Tucson HD all the time and the GM at Tucson was really pleased that the wrinkle black was a perfect match. I'm gonna have my parts powder coated instead of buying HD's wrinkle black cause it's a hellava lot cheaper and it's more custom. I hope your local guys do you a good job too.
