I had the same problem shortly after changing my mufflers. The rattle would occur at times with just the engine idling or at bumps in the road. I fixed it by removing the rubber isolators on the muffler hangers and applying a little anti-seize compound on the rubber isolators (inside and out). I reinstalled the rubbers and haven't heard a rattle since. I figured the noise was coming from dry rubber against metal and the anti-seize creates a slippery graphite type surface. Anti-seize is heat resistant so it should stay put. It worked for me...your mileage may vary.

OK I think I had the same problem and helped someone here with it before. Go to the back of the bike and hit both slip ons, one at a time, at the end on the side with your hand, if you hear the rattle, then it is the baffle in the slipon. What is happening is the baffle pipe slips over a mating pipe inside the slipon and there is a slight clearance between the pipes that will give you the rattle noise. How I fixed it was, remove the screw at the back of the slipon that holds the baffle in, pull the baffle out, and you will see the flared end that slips over the mating pipe inside the slipon. I took a center punch and made 2 indentations on the baffle pipe at 90 deg. from each other. This will make the fit have more tension and your rattle will disappear, just dont dent it too much or you will have a hard time getting it back out again. You will probably see if you take it out, where it is rubbing on the baffle pipe, I made the indentations in that region. Hope this helps.

If you have V&H ovals with a rattle all you have to do is pull the baffle and squish the end thats furthest to the muffler slightly. I have had the same problem with mine and this is the fix V&H suggested. This just tightens up the fit enough to stop the rattle. This is a very common problem with the V&H ovals. Since mine have had this simple fix they have ben fine.

Did you ever get this problem resolved? Just wondering.

check to see if the baffles in the pipe are broken,I changed the tips on mine and heard a tok tok tok tok sound from the left side baffle.yup part of the baffle was dislodged banging against the inside of the muffler.

Yes...the problem, as diagnosed on here, was a loose baffle from the VH slip on's. All better now.
