Lots of great choices out there! Helmets are made in different shapes, so if possible you should try some on at a dealer.
We have Shoei X11 full face helmets for the winter and they are of superb quality and offer great protection from wind and rain. Nice and warm in the winter too, but too hot for us during the summer in Atlanta.
We have the Harley-Davidson Ultra Jet 3/4 helmets for the summer. Although the quality is not as high as the Shoei, for $175 they do fine. These have a full faceshield so they keep the wind off your face and offer good eye protection. Still get a little warm when the temps at street level are above 90 degrees, but a good option.
I also have a Harley-Davidson carbon fiber half helmet which I wear from time to time around town. It's a bit noisy and doesn't give me much confidence for crash protection. I'm not sold on the half helmets in general for that reason, but I like how they let you hear everything around you and are nice and cool in the summer.
I'm thinking that a Shoei 3/4 helmet might be the ideal all-around helmet for me, and as soon as I get over the $400 sticker shock I might end up with one...
I bought my SHOEI helmets (RJ Platinum-R 3/4 helmet for 90% of my riding and MultiTec for the other 10%) at Performance Cycle. Prices are hard to beat...
this is easy best is what fits u the best go to shows or whever theres lots of vedors and try on as many makes and models as posible wear them for awhile then go price shoppin online after u decide on what u want.
http://www.jmcorp.com/ Check out this company for Vega half helmets for $56.99 and free shipping. I use nothing but half helmets and yes I have wrecked while wearing one. I t-boned a deer last year, I broke 7 ribs in 11 places, some road rash to lower right leg, messed up a knuckle, and did over $12,000 damage to a 2008 Ultra Classic. I get the white helmets and they come with vents for cooling. I have read that you are 14% safer from cars turning in front of you with white helmets than some other color. Also white helmets are cooler.
I have three, two half and one 3/4 helmet. The most comfortable I've ever worn and the 1/2 has a back strap that helps the fit. For a full-face I like the fit of Shoei but I have a huge mellon.
I got mine from Jafrums, EXO-100. Love this helmet.DOT and Snell rated, internal half visor and set up for intercom use. $109 Shipped!
Hey, that's cool. I was looking at getting one of these for my girl. Pink, of course. Question for you, do they run true to size or should you go up or down a size?
