Yeah, same here-cant see the $300+ for the stealer to do it. Cant imagine theres much to it with a jack.

Tip: Buy the Service manual. Read It. Follow the Maintenance Schedule for Scheduled Maintenance Intervals in Section 1, Table 1.

Hope this helps. (B-D)>

Default Warranty

I plan on doing most of my own maint as well(with the manual of course). My question is: Is there a stipulation in the warranty of who can do the maintenance not to void it? Like a liscensed harley mech.?

+1 on doing the work yourself with the manual and keeping all receipts. I learn some thing new about my bike every time I open the manual.

1) As others have said, buy the service manual.
2) You need torque wrench(s) that work for all the specified torques.
3) You should take detailed notes. One, it can document things for warranty if necessary, two, it's nice to refer back to prior to your next service etc.
4) DO EVERYTHING IN THE MANUAL. The 1k service is not an oil change. It's three oil changes, cable lube, lever lube, hinge and lock mechanism lube, steering head inspection, lube, and adjustment, clutch adjustment, belt inspection and tensioning, spoke tensioning, spark plug inspection, various other inspections, and very important, critical fastener torque check.

Set aside a bunch of time for your first one, it takes an experienced tech 3ish hours to do it.

Enjoy getting to know your bike.

Oils are a personal choice. Kind of like what kind of beer do you like. I am a mobil 1 man myself with redline shockproof in the transmsission.
