Default friggin oil thread

Dont crucify me for the oil thred here. I just looked over some old threads and couldnt find exactly what I was after. I have a new RKC (heavy touring bike) and about to do the 1000 mile service. I was thinking of going to amsoil now that its been broken in. My concern about the synthetic oil is in the primary. Im afraid with a bike as heavy as a touring bike that the clutch is going to slip more. I dont have huge horsepower or anything but still concerned. My only performance mods are SE air cleaner SEST and a thunderheader. It dynoed at like 71hp and 84ft/lbs torque. Anyway what are you guys experience with amsoil or other synthetics in the primary?

I wouldn't bother with syn in the primary. Waste of money. If so, try Redline MTL

I put mobile 1 10w-40 syn in my primary about a 1000 miles ago, with no issues. I was told 20w-50 syn was a alittle heavy for the clutch and may cause slipping.

My set up is close to yours. SE/AC, SEST, Rineharts TD's. I run HD syn in all 3 holes becausae of availability anywhere I travel to.
To date, no problems. I travel with quite a bit of extra weight in saddles, t-pack and lug-rack.

I think any oil that costs >$4/qt. is overkill for the primary. That location simply does not need anything more than a cheap multi-viscosity fossil oil or ATF Type F. It's rare that a cheap oil is the best option, but in this case I believe it is.

There is already a thread on this topic here, BTW.
