Default Push Button Fuel Door

Has anyone installed part 53842-00C and their barrel key will not lock the new push button lock? I have tried both my keys and it will not turn. The part did not come with instructions, it was easy to install but not sure what you have to do to lock it. I know it is supposed to be lockable.

I took my key lock out and just put a push button in it. When I found out that any HD key would unlock it what is the point. Besides with the key phob I guess I just did not want to fumble around in my pocket and get the key each time I stoped for fuel.

I installed the push button, it also has the ability to lock it. I would like to have the option. However, my key is not turning the lock...

I'm sure that is the same part number I just bought. I put mine on and it works great. All locks for fuel doors are keyed to except a HD barrel key.

Does it open with the push of the button? Post a Pic of it the way it is now, maybe someone or I can help.

Works fine with the push button, just will not turn with a key to lock it. It is installed exactly like this:

I went out and tried a few different scenarios...locking it when it's open, locking it when it's closed, still works like a charm. The only thing that stopped the key from turning was pressing the key in too hard. The key would not lock it (turning from left to right) Other than that, unless you don't care if it locks, might want to exchange it (if that's possible for you)

Putting the lock in and out is easy as you said. Remove it from the fuel door and see if it works then, oil it some while you are at it but only if you think it needs it. If it works out of the door then it is in a bind. Mine will not lock either if I push the key in too hard. The only complaint I have is the so called spring is pitiful. It could be a bad lock.

Wont turn even after taking it out and oiling it. I guess its just a bad lock.
