Some of you guys might think his question was a joke, but I was asking this very same question not too long ago myself! I am new to harley and honestly did not want to force my shield off the bike in fear of scratching something. I enjoy reading and participating in this forum- actually, i thought the forum was supposed to be used for these types of questions.

Thanks for the info on the loops, i will try to bend them to fit properly.

Hey we got all kinds on here. Ask any question you like. I won't try to classify these guys who are getting after you a little bit. Some people are more mechanically inclined than others and don't understand when somebody else can't figure something out. Even the simplest of things. Some people learn a little something and then like to put others down who know less so they can feel good about themselves. Most everybody on here are good people, and willing to help however they can, but it can get a little rough from time to time, but mostly all in good fun. Somebody asked a while back how to put in air in a tire!

Yup. There's all kinds here, some are good with wrenches, some are not. Go ahead and ask away and ignore the guff you get for asking.

Be careful to pull/push the windshield at the horizontal crossbar only cuz if you put pressure on the plexiglass anywhere else you risk cracking it.

As said before just pull it forward towards you as you straddle the front fender. Then once the top slots have come loose lift it straight up and out.

When you put it back on, slide the lower notches into place first then gently push the upper ones into place. You may need to spread the upper notches apart just a wee bit as you push it on, but again put all pressure on the metal frame pieces not on the plexiglass.

It's very easy and takes like 5 seconds. I love the RK and the convertible aspect of it. The windshield is great for freeway speeds of long duration on road trips but I love having it off for a nice day on back roads. Totally changes the feel of the ride.

I think the design is the same on a Fatboy, and if so, the windshield is attached so that it will break away if you push on it hard enough.

I happened upon a biker that lost it in a curve, went over the bars and through the shield. Bike was scratched all to hell and a little scratch on the shield. The guy dusted everything off, attached his shield, changed his shorts and was on his way.

That post is right behind the rider and right beside the bike, 6 inches and this could have been deadly.
