Default Back support?

I tried a search and it wouldn't narrow enough so I'm gonna break down and ask.
Someone posted a link for a back support back brace on here a few weeks ago and I can't find it in a search. Backs screwed wtih 2 herniated lumbar discs and a collapsed foreamen at s1. This brace looked like it might get me through a couple of upcoming rides before my surgery and after recovery.

The brace was a velcro closured band that had lumbar support and could be worn under or over clothes. It was red or blue and had the company logo on it. Can't remember the company. Kinda stoned on painkillers. Thanks in advance for yalls help.

I wear a Back-A-Line back support belt from Whitehorse Gear. It works great for $50.00.

I can't find the exact type, but I had a fusion a few years ago and the Dr. gave me a prescription for a brace to wear post surgery. It had velcro to put it in place like all supports do, but is also had these handle things on each side, which when pulled, tightened it even more (with strings). What made it nice, was that it had not 1, but 2 mechanisms to tighten it around my waist. It's important to get good compression around your lumbar area, and the extra means of tightening it will give you that. I actually found one similar to it, a few years later, at a sporting goods store in the weight belt area. It was just a lot narrower (top to bottom).

Anyway, be sure to get one that has a decent height...too narrow and it will not work as well. A corset type is what I'm talking about. That should ensure it won't ride up when you're sitting on the bike...if it rides up, it's not gonna do its job.

FWIW, I ordered the Back-a-Line myself, and used it on a couple of rides before I got my backrest (best investment yet for my back) and the Back-a-Line was okay. It slipped up easily, keeping it from doing it's job as well as it should. It's a good back support for the average joe, but in your chronic situation, it sounds like you need a more intense brace. My opinion is to get yourself the "best" you can afford from a brace company...you will want it to stay in place, breathe and move with you...not slide up. Here's a link that may have something for you. http://www.braceshop.com/productcart...CK-SHOP-c4.htm

Good luck with that back...sux doesn't it?

Had spine surgery almost two years ago my self for the same problem, first off let me tell you after the surgery do exactly what the Dr. tells you, and there is hope for no pain!
For now I believe the only hope you have is plenty of meds, I never found a brace, or a position that releived the pain before the surgery, but then my rupture was bad enough that the material ruptured the dural sack on my spinal cord.
Have you had an epidural? That can help a lot to releive the pain.
Terry

Edited to say: After the surgery and they finaly release you to have PT work on your core, a strong core and you will not need a brace.

Yeah I've got plenty of meds. Had 3 epidurals last summer. I'm a paramedic and I really love my job so I'd been trying to hide it for the past 2 years and trying to take care of it myself. It started hurting REALLY bad a couple of weeks ago and the administration for the service I work at staged something similar to a bit of an intervention. I'm now out on work comp and seeing a neurosurgeon. I'm told that the only thing that will fix everything is a fusion of L3 down to S1. I'm waitning to get in for a second opinion but I know it'll be the same.
So I go under the knife in about a month I'm guessing and I'll be on my *** for however long they say.
Coffeyville is famous for the Dalton gang's demise and every year we do a "run with the Daltons". We ride from Coffeyville KS to Meade KS and back. Last year we did all 630 miles in one day and I was on a rigid sporty. This year we're staying the night there and doing it in 2 days and I'm on my cop glide so I think I can make it. It's hard to think I may not since Post 20 at Coffeyville concieved it.
Anyway, yes this does suck. I hope they're not BSing me when they say I will be pain free and be able to maintain my active life when it's all over. In my line of work I've seen the best and the worst outcomes of this. Thanks for the help and advice. I'll be on here alot more now.

Don't know if this will help or not, but I have the adjustable rider backrest:

Easy to adjust on the ride and gives comfortable support. Plus, it was easy to install it. You might need a different seat, but it is a great excuse for an upgrade. Good luck with your back.

I feel your pain. My back has been tormenting me for years but a few months ago I really did it in trying to get my quad which had broke down into the back of my truck. Now the pain is relentless. In short I NEED SOME OF YOUR PAINKILLERS!!!!!!! Not having insurance sucks but our government will take care of that. Yeah, right..... Some tylox would be nice or even some vicodin.

Warm Form is the name of the brace I wore. Highly recommend it.

All I can tell you about being pain free, for me I spent nearly three months mostly bed ridden, when I woke up from the surgery I was pain free, I limp when I walk now because of the nerve damage and that causes my SI joint to tighten up which also gets on the siatic nerve, but no where near the pain I had from the disc, and slowly I am getting that to go away, and the best part is I feel better when I am on the bike then when I am off, so as bad as it is now for you there is hope!
