Default Voltage Reg. flickering.

Upon the last few weeks, I have noticed my voltage regulator on my 04 EGC drop from 14/15 down to 10 or so then back up just as fast. I first noticed it at night on my way home and the headlight dim, then back up to normal.

I then began to pay real close attention and have seen it 2 since. The engine does not dog out, nothing else seems to be affected by this. Any ideas?

Check your system with a multitester. I had a chrome Voltage regular give up the ghost recently. It kept throwing a code and I finally tracked it down and replaced it. At least HOPE it's your voltage regulator and not your stator.

I hope/think it not the regulator or stator. I just had both replaced in July while the wife and I were on our way to the Smokeys when we were in Bowling Green Ky.

I would check electrical system may be as simple as a loose battery terminal.

I don't think the solid state regulator can be sparadic. The stator can be checked pretty easy by disconnecting it from the regulator instead of the engine block and checking it for continuity between each leg and for a short to ground.
Does your voltage meter in the fairing increase in voltage when you open the throttle? that would tell you the regulator is good. Check your connections, including the connection to the voltage meter.

I will have to have my buddy test it for me for he has that equipment. As far as the voltage going up when I roll on it, yes it does.
Someone else said to check the battery connections and I will do both ends when I get a chance. Just got back from HogRock this morning and am going to be catching up on some much missed sleep for the next few days between working.

I just had this happen. All that was wrong on mine was some loose cables. 5 minutes after I was home it was fixed.

Check the connector plug for the voltage regulator, too.
