Took bike in for new rear tire today, when they were done they told me that the rear wheel bering failed. Asked them whats going on as my front bering failed at 10k miles when the replace the cupping front tire for free at the time I thought the vibes from the cupping tire damaged the front berings, they told me the berings were changed a few years ago to a sealed bering and they suck, they replace many under warranty.
The ? for the HDF brain trust? Is there a better bering for these wheels, Timken or something?
I was wondering the same thing just today as I just dropped mine off for probably the same thing at 2000 miles. I am hearing a roar when I hit the brakes. Beginnings of a tank slapper at 85. It might be worth looking in to Timken ect to see if they do make something, as this is BS with a capital B and a capital S. Good grief that could get somebody killed.
Had my rear bearing go out at about 18,000 miles. They replaced it under warranty, but scary experience as I had little warning. When I left a light or stop sign and turned, I heard a "click" and the bike seemed to shift very slightly at the rear wheel. Stopped by the dealer the next morning on the way to work, and saw the spacer flanged out from the loose bearing rubbing against it. Left the bike there and called for a ride. Very dangerous situation that could have had a very unhappy ending. Thank God I ride often enough to notice even the slightest deviation from normal! Hope they come up with a better bearing real soon!
Well took the bike in for the 25k and had them change tires, front under warranty rear just to get fresh rubber for the Hoka Hey challenge. Yep the berings bad again. What Timkin bering replaces the 09 stock bering?
