Tent?
I also found this gem which has integrated poles and rainfly. Up or down in seconds. Then you just have to decide on what you want to sleep on. This tent is large enough to give you plenty of options and for what you save by buying from Costco you can get a one year membership. Then you can also buy your sleeping bag, air mattress, cot, etc. from them and save more bucks.
Someone else had the idea of a hammock/tent sort of thing. It's up off the ground so always level no matter the terrain yet you're sheltered from rain or moisture while in it.
Sleeping on the ground sucks though that's for sure.
Try a 3 man 4 season backpackers tent and a sleaping pad for warm/cool sleaping a cot will hurt after a while. dont skimp on the $$$ or your trip will be a nightmare. check out www.campmore.com for a good selection at good prices. and read backpacker magazine for ideas.
I picked up the REI Quarter Dome T2 two person tent last spring on a 40% off sale. Great tent!

I had a walmart tent. One night it started raining. It leaked so bad that I left there the next day.

I've used an Alpine Design 2 man pack tent for 3 years. It's kept me warm and dry in rain,snow,50mph. winds.,weighs under 5lbs.and 6in. dia. rolled up.I use a twin size Coleman air mattress which rolls up nicely with a little batt. powered air pump. The tent was a 100 bucks.I did splurge on a North face 0deg. sleeping bag.
This tent fits in the bottom of my saddle bag
