Try out a bivy from REI with a sleeping mat.

Go get 'em Jerry!!!! Your azz is gonna fall off! I salute ya though.

Couldn't you just make an appearance on Dancing With The Stars for a midlife crisis challenge?

Sleeping on the ground sucks though that's for sure.

Hoka Hey starts third week of June. You're not going to hit any freezing temps. Any tent with a fly will work.

I hate to be the safety police but somebody's gotta do it:

1) If you are going to sleep next to your bike, you best sleep on the right side. If your jiffy stand sinks (despite your efforts to prevent that), she is going over on the left and that would be a rude wake-up.

2) You can do what you want but I would never bring a flame inside of a tent as one poster recommended. Accident is too easy and escape is too hard.

Sorry. Glad thats over.

Funny UK, America would not want me on Dancing With The Stars
believe me hehehe.

Thanks for the advice guys, I am asking in the touring forum because you guys are as worn out as I am and have come up with ingenious ideas for comfort in harsh situations, you have more $ to spend on these ideas, the younger ones in the General section are more durable than we are and would give advice like a blanket and pillow with cheeze whiz and crackers.

Would appreciate advice on bags etc etc

I looked at that rally. Hoka Hey was discussed on the LDRiders list extensively this past year, and the consensus was not good. Most felt there was something fishy about the rally and how it was set up / being run. I'm not bashing the Hoka Hey, just saying you might want to be careful if you are looking at participating.

As for tents, I'd look at Campmor as stated above or the Bibler tents at Aerostich/Riderwearhouse.

Gunner judging from what he said and where he's going. I'd imagine he's doing the Hokey Rally. The rules do not permit you to sleep in a hotel. You have to sleep with your bikes. The rally is from Key West to Alaska in Jume I believe.
