Yep been there done that, Ft Irwin, Ft Bliss many years ago, the critters never bothered me didnt even wake up for them, just worried about the ones that eat us whole in the great white north where you cant have the 45 or 44 mag.

I upped myself onto one elbow to see a Tarantula crawling over my Deuce Gear... Not one to be bothered by bugs I tried to find it to kill it - no joy - assumed the sleep position... LOL! Almost always though it just some tiny thing that is looking to stay warm... don't be freaked out. Just sweep it off and dance around like Ricky Bobby in his skivvies then go back to sleep - ha ha!!!

I have the Coleman hooligan 3 tent. it's 8x7 and it has a great cover with a vestibule (an area outside the front of the tent that is covered). It's a 2+1 tent but two adults is probably pushing it a bit. I use it with a twin mattress and couldn't be happier. Roomy enough but not too big.

I use an eureka similar to the backpacker 1 and an Oregon Bedroll: http://www.oregonbedroll.com/ -- keeps you off the ground and has the auto inflate mattress. The rain cover is great for giving some extra wamth as well as using without tent when it is not needed.

I use a Sierra Designs Electron 2-man tent for motorcycle camping. Full coverage rainfly, bathtub floor, aluminum poles, lifetime guarantee, $200 retail. There are more expensive tents out there, but you can get Rolls-Royce quality new-in-the-box at about 1/2 price on Ebay. I paid $90 and this is my 3rd Sierra Designs tent, I still use my first one, a 4-man, mfg. in 1987. Extremely lightweight and about as good as they get. I could fit 3 of these tents in one saddlebag and still have room to spare! Add a ThermaRest sleeping pad from Cascade Designs and a good Marmot goose-down bag and you're ready to roll.

i think you should check out the eureka timberline 4 man tent, put the vestibule on her and you can take your muddy boots off in the rain with out dragging mud into your tent,i have been using these tents since 1984 and would not look at anything else!!!!!!!!

I used this Coleman 8' x 7' on a two-week 4200 mile trip. Got it from Big-5 for about $30 on a season close-out. You'll want the extra room, over a 5' x 7'. Set-up is easy with the shock-corded collapsible poles. Here's two views of the same model; my neighbor at our NW Dyna Meet-'n-Greet this summer had the same tent as I did...

Default Go Eureka 1+...

I use the two man solo and 3 person for two. It has an extended vestibule so you can store items out of weather. Get space between you and ground... light 3/4 length air mattress... full on comfort twin air mattress. Sleeping bag Wiggy's two bag system based on your needs.

My trip will be in the summer in june and all the sleeping bags i see at walmart and what not roll up to about a huge roll way to big to carry on a bike looking for a cheap one that rolls up as small as a two man tent from wally world.
