Remember that on later models, check the oil with the machine on the jiffy stand. The general rule of thumb is that if your bike has a swivel type dipstick, you should check the oil level with the bike on the side stand.

The dipstick is marked for checking on the jiffy stand and while sitting upright......Also for checking while cold and while hot....
