Are you using "inch pounds" or "foot pounds"?
I didn't know about the "inch pounds" until I bought a Harley.

If it is too tight it will leak. Just loosen up the screws a bit until the gasket does not look smushed. If it still leaks get a new gasket. On the brake fluid reservoir it is always less tight than thought it should be.

1 newton meter = 8.85 inch pound force

6 newton meters+53.1 inch pounds
8 newton meters+70.8 inch pounds

1 foot pound=12 inch pounds

Be sure there is no brake fluid between the gasket and cap, it will leak and you will think it a gasket and go buy another at $20. I did this after laying the cap upside down and got fluid between cap and gasket.
Like someone said dont squish the gasket when tightening, even 1 NM or 8 in lbs seems like too much, snug it tight w/o crushing the gasket and you will be ok, unless you overfilled it, and iff you have a RG it will stain the plastic
