go for the 21! It doesn't cost more than the 18 and it looks way better. You won't notice too much difference in handling. We sell a ton of the 21/18's and I have that on my 07 SG. I'd say the only time I really noticed a difference is when I'm going slow or backing into a spot. The front feels a bit heavier, but once you get going, you won't really notice it at all. Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns. I'd be happy to help.

I have an 18 front and rear now. If I were to switch the front to 21in, is there a lowering kit that will bring the front down enough to make the bike level?

Take the fender brackets off!!!!!!! Mount your fender where it was. Put one of the mounting bolts in. Rotate your fender on the one stud to accomadate the wheel to give you about 1/2 of an inch clearence or more depending on your setup. Tape something 1/2 thick to the wheel and rotate it until nothing touches. You may have to elongate the mounting hole slot or slots in the fender but it should go on with out a problem. You don't need to raise the fender up 2" with brackets. Once the fender is mounted correctly you can lower the front end by an inch with no problem ..

The dealer said they couldnt do that because I am running a 140/70-21 tire and it just doesnt fit that way. Hence the fender brackets. I will talk to them again. Maybe they can try it your way. But even when I spoke to the guys at Hogpro they said since Im running such a big front tire I would need those brackets.

Good thread. I've been wanting a 21 front for my 09 SG. I'm leaving the rear stock because I can't see the point of dropping over a grand on a wheel that will be hidden by the saddlebags. I hadn't even thought of having to lower the front by 1 inch to compensate for the bigger wheel. Like I said, good thread.

LOL. The point is me not spending a grand on a back wheel nobody can see. That would be like a hot woman wearing lingerie underneath her clothes, but not letting anyone watch her strip down to it.

I must be a sexual deviant. The moment someone tries to make a point and uses anything sexual as a reference point...Bam it puts everything into perspective.

All kidding aside. I just spoke with the guys at Hogpro. He made an intersting comment and point. Im running a 140/70-21 tire on a 3.5 inch wheel up front which raised the front up and 1 1/4 inches which makes a difference visually. I cant lower it because I put on fender brackets which raised the fender up 2 inches. However had i run a 120/70-21 tire front end would not of been raised. He said for some reason the 140 tires raises the bike and the 120 doesnt.

I switched my rear wheel to to an 18 inch wheel and you do see it. Look through some bagger mags and I think when they do the entire bike and leave the stock wheel it looks unfinished. J?ust my .02
