Test Tachometer
I have an Electronic Specialties ESI 321, I don't recall paying quite this much but I've had it for several years.

You could also use a "Tiny Tach" or equivalent they are like $20-40. Check boating or RC supply places.
Another (more expensive) option if your in the market for a good DMM or already have one, some of them have a tach function,
I had a Fluke at work that did it required a special probe. The probe wasn't that expensive (about $70) but the meter was.

Do you happen to have a Power Commander on your ride?Hook the lap top up unless you need to ride with it..
You guys got me to thinking. I know, because there is a smell in here...
Since Harleys double fire...wouldn't a 4-cylinder tuning tach work? I mean, when you think about it, a harley fires 4 times for two cylinders at a given rpm, same as a four-banger. So the tach would think it's seeing the pulse of the two TDC cylinders of a four banger, when it's actually just one acting as two.
Or is it just my bedtime?
