did a 103 stage iv on a 09 street glide, have a hundred miles on it, considering ordering a thunder header for it?? getting it on before the dyno tune. How loud are they any pos or negatives to this pipe i would love some insight???
They are pretty loud. They work well, but IMHO you'd be better served with a Bassani or D&D. I just put a black THeader on a 10 FLTRX w/ Tman103, but haven't fired it yet so I can't give you a decible# on the noise.
Very loud.
They work very well for power gains.
I've heard different stories about weld issues. The stories are not verified though. I've just heard stories.
They are ugly unless you buy all the chrome covers.
They are pricey in comparison to a Fat Cat, which delivers all of the above, accept for the ugly, because they come with the chrome already strapped on from the factory.
i have thunderheaders slipons with vance an hines true duals there isnt a pipe that gives you the sound of one of those there loud i will admit imho if you want a bike to sound like a harley then get the thunderheader its a real head tuner i run those on a 2006 street glide with a big bore
If your rpm's are going be above 3,000 then go the ThunderHeader... But for lower r's I would recommend slipons..
Pumping up the compression really makes the ThunderHeader bark.
I have one on my 09 stage 1 96" RKC and to me, for sound there is nothing that sounds better. They are also supposed to be top notch for performance. To me, their weak spot is the chrome. I don't have any cracks or peeling but it just doesn't have as deep of a chrome look as the rest of the chrome on my bike.
Loud sounding and reasonable power producer but make sure to buy heat shield for slipons discolor very easily .Don't agree for calling ugly I think these are unique product like noting else. But the loudness does get old when you go 2-3K mile trip used em about 3 years then moved to V&H Monster Ovals with TD headers.
I have the slipons with vance and hines headers and couldn't be happier. I went through numerous sets of exhaust and thousands of dollars chasing the sound and finally have it. Yes, they are loud but one of the best sounding exhaust on the market. As for performance, like was said earlier, these really come alive in the midrange which works for me because that is usually where I keep my rpms.
